Helen Adams Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Northern Alabama, to Arthur H. Keller and Kate Adams Keller.
Helen was not born blind or deaf, but was actually a typically healthy infant. When she was 19 months old, she came down with an illness the family doctor called brain febrility. This fever didnt last very long, but changed her life forever, by leaving her deaf and blind.
During childhood, Helen and her ace, Martha, formed their own version of point out language. By the conviction Helen was 7 years old, they had created more than 60 signs to go along with each opposite.
Helens lack of ability to communicate resulted in many behavior issues. She became so uncontrollable that relatives suggested the Kellers send their daughter to an institution. Desperate for help, Mrs. Keller went searching for answers.
In, 1886, The Kellers were introduced to a recent graduate from Perkins Institution for the Blind. Her name was Anne Sullivan. Sullivan would spend the conterminous 49 years teaching Helen to communicate and being her companion.
In 1890, Helen began taking speech classes, and in 1894 she began attending school and working on her dialogue skills.



She was determined not to let her disabilities take off in her way of life. With Anne Sullivan by her side, Helen mastered several methods of communication and wrote her first book, while attending Radcliff College, where she graduated in 1904.
Helen pass the rest of her life helping others. She spoke on behalf of other people living with disabilities, and stood up for womens rights. She cofounded Helen Keller International, and had her hands in countless other foundations.
In 1936, Helen Keller lost her best friend and teacher, but with the help of Polly Thompson, she continued traveling the world and making her speeches.
